Transition Support | FAQs

  • Q | How do I get support to help me on my transition journey?

You can find support for your transition journey in many ways:

    • Medical. For the medical aspects of your transition, talking to trusted healthcare providers may be a source of support. For example, a doctor or a nurse can answer questions you have about treatments or procedures while a social worker can connect you to resources you may need during your transition.

    • Personal. Another important source of support for your transition are your family and friends. For example, you can confide in trusted people about your transition plans or ask for their help after a surgery.

    • Work. If your employer is supportive of you as a trans or gender-expansive person, talk with them about accommodations or time off you would need for your transition. You may also explore ways your boss can be supportive in promoting acceptance and understanding of trans people in the workplace.

    • Spiritual. Some people may find support in a faith community that accepts their transition and helps them grow spiritually in the process.

    • Community. Consider attending trans-focused support groups where you can hear from peers who have already transitioned or attend a Pride event or trans-focused conference to get information about transitioning.

  • Q | Is financial aid available to support my gender-affirming medical and surgical care?

Financial aid is available for gender-affirming treatments and procedures through national and local sources. The Campaign for Southern Equality→ has put together a list of national and regional organizations offering funding and other assistance to people from diverse backgrounds who need financial help with transitioning.
